This Saturday, November 7, at 9 p.m. Montreal musician Carrie Katz will be performing at NDG’s Shaika Café.
Katz is a singer with vocals that have been compared to Annie Lennox, Natalie Merchant (10,000 Maniacs), Sarah McLachlan and Janis Joplin. Comfortable in acoustic and electric guitar, Carrie’s melodies range from pop because they are irresistibly sing along-able to an alternative folk-urbanesque-rock feel that sharpens the sweetness. Socially minded, a feminist and a die-hard romantic, her My Space page
www.myspace.com) claims her songs to be “of love, longing, misadventures, poetic taffy, biting, hopeful, and whimsical.”
“As a creative person, I have always been drawn to the arts. At times, this has not been an easy path but one I felt compelled to follow. I’ve worked in theatre, film, T.V., writing and performing; and my biggest love has always been music, both performing and songwriting.
Katz’s other big passion has been social activism. Her earliest activities involved protests against apartheid and political prisoners. Her sense of justice and a desire to help others is probably also what led her to become a Certified Life Coach, where she has often had the occasion to integrate music and coaching in her search for inspiration.
Carrie Katz performs this Saturday, November 7, at 9 p.m. at Shaika Café (5526 Sherbrooke St. West, NDG). The Indie Princess duo Wink, Mira Katz and Emily Wing will be opening.
