Craig Morrison and The Momentz on Feb. 1
Concordia University Department of Music presents the 11th Annual Roots and Rock and Roll Concert, at Oscar Peterson Hall, featuring Memphis Blues, Country, Rock and Soul. Tribute will be paid to Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Otis Redding and more. The concert will feature Craig Morrison and The Momentz, Vintage Wine and guests. Tickets available at the Box Office and on the Admission network. $14 for adults, $11 for seniors and $8 for students.
Ranee Lee Presents a Children’s Jazz Concert at the NBC
Ranee Lee presents a Children’s Jazz Concert as part of the Norman Berman Children’s Library 8th annual Children’s Entertainment Series on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at 5151 Côte Ste-Catherine Road, Montreal. An extraordinary and captivating performance by one of Canada’s most popular jazz vocalists and a Member of the Order of Canada, Lee will be accompanied by well-known guitarist Richard Ring. Copies of her new book, Nana What do you Say, as well as her CDs will be available for sale and signing. This show is geared for everyone three-years-old and up.
Oriented Towards Sound III
On February 9, the Concordia University Department of Music presents Oriented Towards Sound III, a third concert of the continuing concert series that will feature new and traditional works from a number of eastern cultures including Taiwan and China. Tickets available at the box office and Admission network. $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and non-Concordia students. Free for Concordia students with ID.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
A pancake supper will be held on Shrove Tuesday, February 5, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the hall of St. Thomas Church, 6897 Somerled Avenue, at the corner of Rosedale, in NDG. Price for the supper will be $7 for adults and $4 for children, 6 to 12 years of age. The meal includes pancakes – all you can eat—with syrup, sausages, dessert and beverage. Houdini and Dr. Schwartz at the Segal
Don't miss Sunday-@-the-Segal for the upcoming musical production, Houdini, as they welcome local celebrity, Dr. Joe Schwarcz. Dr. Joe will be sharing his insight and passion about Houdini in his lecture titled, Houdini: The Man and the Myth. Houdini, escape artist extraordinaire, was a complex man, loved by the public and hated by the fake psychics he exposed. His death was as much a mystery as his life. Love him or hate him, his story is a fascinating one. Joe Schwarcz, Director of McGill University’s Office for Science and Society, has received numerous awards for teaching chemistry and for interpreting science for the public. He hosts various radio talk shows and has appeared innumerable times on The Discovery Channel, CTV, CBC, TV Ontario and Global Television. He also writes a newspaper column and has authored a number of books. He is a devotee of magical history, particularly that of Houdini. The event takes place on Sunday, February 10, at 11 a.m. at the Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre (5170 Cote St. Catherine Rd.) Coffee and refreshments will be served afterwards. Free admission. Residential energy efficiency programs
The Environmental Action Committee of the Town of Montreal West is sponsoring an evening with HYDRO-QUÉBEC to speak about their residential energy efficiency programs on Monday, February 11, at 7 p.m. Come learn about available grants and new technology that will cut both your electric bill and your environmental impact! The Hope & Wellness Centre (4635, chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine), an organization supporting cancer patients and their families, is offering a variety of self-help groups, beginning in January 2008.
