5th Annual General Assembly of Mosaïk

The 5thAnnual General Assembly of Mosaïk Family Resource Center (. 6215 Côte Saint-Luc Road) takes place on Thursday, April 30, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Guest Speaker: Sophie Robitaille, Psycho-educator, CSSS Cavendish, “Pre Daycare Concerns”. Tel: 514.227.1270.

“The Sexual Paradox: Which is the Stronger Sex?” by and with Susan Pinker at the Jewish Public Library, 5151 Côte Ste-Catherine Road, Montreal on Wednesday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. Introduced by Joel Yanofsky, novelist and literary columnist. Reception. Admission: $5 students/Jewish Public Library members; $10 non-members. To reserve tickets, call the ticket line (514) 345-6416 or visit www.jewishpubliclibrary.org for more information.

Why do girls do increasingly well in the classroom yet men still dominate the board room? In this thought-provoking and entertaining lecture, Pinker examines how fundamental sex differences play out at school and at work. By comparing the lives of fragile boys who later succeed, with the choices of gifted, high-achieving girls, she turns many commonly held assumptions upside down: that women and men are biologically equivalent, that intelligence is all it takes to succeed, and that men and women want exactly the same things out of work and life.

Susan Pinker is a developmental psychologist and award winning national newspaper columnist who writes about psychology and social science for The Globe and Mail. Her recent book, The Sexual Paradox: Extreme Men, Gifted Women and the Real Gender Gap, has been published in 12 languages and 17 countries. This event is sponsored by the Michael Lauter Memorial Fund of the Jewish Public Library.

Over the River and Through the Woods at the Segal

From April 19 – May 10, the Segal Centre will be performing Over the River and Through the Woods. Love of family is the central theme of this endearing, warm-hearted comedy. The play takes us on a sweet and sentimental journey as Nick, a dutiful, young marketing executive, goes to visit his grandparents to give them some exciting news: he’s moving far away. Thus ensues a familiar, tragi-comic dialogue between the generations, transcending ethnicity and cultural background.

Over the River and Through the Woods is part of the Segal Centre's ‘Salute to the Italian Community’, a twenty-one day event featuring nightly presentations of the play, Italian films and artwork by some of Montreal’s most esteemed Italian artists.

Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre is located at 5170, chemin de la Cote-Sainte-Catherine. For more info, Box Office: (514) 739-7944, Admission (514) 790-1245
