The City of Montreal’s ailing public water system must be under some strain. This was the scene at the corner of Grand Boulevard and Godfrey Avenue in NDG on Thursday, where a covered manhole was streaming forth water like a fountain in the middle of the city. To their credit, employees with the Borough of Côte des Neiges-Notre Dame de Grâce’s public works department, who came by earlier, had already put up barriers and warning signs. The borough is currently dealing with at least one other major waterworks problem in NDG: at the corner of Doherty and Chester avenues, repairs on a 48-inch main are supposed to be completed by the end of this week.
