I've read your column today, and I've noticed that, while you're not a vegan or vegetarian, it seems to me that you feel that they are on the right track. If this is the case, then I certainly agree with you. I have dabbled in veganism myself, having tried it once for three weeks. However, the tastiness of meat and the temptations of the outside world were too much for me to resist.
Still, I believe that animals are conscious, just as we are, and can feel both pleasure and pain. Therefore, I believe that humanity as a whole is doing something terribly evil by killing and eating animals. "Ethically speaking, killing an animal is similar to murder, in my opinion. The only difference is that our society permits it.
Currently, you are either a vegan or you aren't. But, I think that there are many people who aren't vegans but believe in the rightness of veganism, and are aware of the evilness of killing animals and eating them. Perhaps there should be an organization for this third category of individual: the vegan sympathizer. They could be part-time vegans, people who have decided to reduce their meat consumption, people who sympathize with the cause or people who would consider transitioning to veganism gradually. It could be a kind of support group, as well as an instrument for spreading veganism.
