“I would like to thank the residents of Cote Saint-Luc District Four for their support and for placing their confidence in me once again. I also would like to thank the volunteers that helped me with my campaign. It has been a pleasure to serve the citizens of Cote Saint-Luc over the last four years. I look forward to four more years and hope to continue working to make Cote Saint-Luc the best place to live not only on the Island of Montreal, but in Quebec and all of Canada.”

Erdelyi’s accomplishments in district 4 include: major renovations at Fletcher Park, securing a crossing guard at CSL Rd. & Westminster, restoring the skating rink at Schwartz Park, new stops signs, no parking signs and 30km/h signs, graffiti removed, new benches, public recycling bins, trees, garbage cans and clean-up of vacant lots.

On the city-level, Erdelyi’s contributions have included: initiated and planned brown bin organic waste collection, increased spending on new books by 50%, removal of library annual fee, lobbied to save EMS and police station 9, wrote CSL’s Zero-Waste Policy and co-wrote several by-laws related to the environment. “In my first term, I’m especially proud of the success of Cote Saint-Luc’s Brown Bin Program. We have virtually doubled the amount of waste that is diverted from landfills. We are also the first city on the Island to expand organic waste collection to schools and senior residences. Cote Saint-Luc has become a model for other cities to follow.”

Erdelyi has many more goals he wishes to achieve. In district 4, he will continue to ensure that Meadowbrooke remains a green space, implement more beautification measures (more trees, flowers, benches and garbage cans), further improve snow removal, and more traffic calming measures. He would also like to see some district community gardens set up. CSL-wide, his goals include expanding recycling and organic waste collection, zero-waste special events, making the city more e-friendly, more aqueduct relining and roads repaved.

In July 2008, Erdelyi was named the Vice-Principal of Westmount High School after serving as the head of the Science Department at Marymount Academy where he taught Math and Science for six years. He has served Quebec’s English-speaking community for many years through various positions at Alliance Quebec, the Saidye Bronfman Centre, and was a member of the Young Leadership Israel Advocacy Initiative.

Erdelyi is also known for co-founding MATCH-LQ, a political action group seeking to encourage young people to stay in Quebec. During his days at McGill University, he initiated a Library Improvement Fund that has raised over $10 million. Erdelyi recently served a two-year term on the board of La Symbiose, a non-profit group aiming to help new immigrants. He currently is member of the Quebec-Israel Committee Board of Directors.

Erdelyi is a graduate of Queen's University with a B.Ed. and McGill University with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry. He is currently working on a post-graduate degree in Educational Leadership at McGill University. In 2007, he and his wife, Randi Berman, welcomed the birth of their son, Matthew, and are expecting their second child in December.

District Four consists of the south-west section of Cote Saint-Luc, bordered by the Wavell CP line to the North, the Baily CP line to the East, Westluke Avenue to the West, and Montreal-West to the South.

Election Results:

Steven Erdelyi 752 Votes 94.4%
