Concordia launches English-Speaking Communities Research

Concordia University is pleased to announce today’s launch of the Quebec English-Speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN) in the presence of Canada’s Commissioner of Official Languages, Graham Fraser. “This dynamic network will be an alliance that will allow distinct research to truly flourish in Quebec’s English-speaking communities. The evolving nature of these communities makes the need for a research network all the more critical,” said Fraser.

Housed in Concordia’s School for Extended Learning, the opportunities inherent in QUESCREN will further advance many of Concordia’s key values. “QUESCREN will actively support Concordia’s long standing goals of promoting socially relevant research, innovative university-community collaboration, and strong community orientation and vitality,” said Concordia Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies, Louise Dandurand.

Established in October, QUESCREN is a joint initiative of Concordia’s School of Extended Learning (SEL) and the Canadian Institute for Research on Linguistic Minorities of the University de Moncton dedicated to developing research capacity related to Quebec’s English-speaking communities. To advance its efforts, the network also works closely with the Department of Canadian Heritage and its main community partner, the Quebec Community Groups Network.

The network’s focus on promoting and supporting community-university research collaboration will foster community and social sustainability, both through enhancing the vitality of Quebec’s English-speaking communities and positioning the research community as a relevant and effective societal observer and actor.
