Grand Master Mourad (7th dan) led four of his students taking part in November’s Commonwealth Championships to two medals. Jocelyn Addison (five time Canadian senior champ) and Nicolas Bertrand respectively took gold and bronze. As well, Genevieve Redstone and Mourad’s own son Maurice did us proud through their participation in the Winnipeg tournament.

And they are just back from Las Vegas. Sin City hosted one of the taekwondo world’s biggest events: the US OPEN. From February 13 to 15 some of the toughest fighters in the world clashed at this important tourney. Juniors and seniors, women and men, all tallied up. Mourad accompanied 7 of his students to this important competition. You read well: 7 students. And that number could have increased had it not been for injuries. The results: Maurice Mourad won the bronze medal in his age and weight division.

Furthermore, three weeks ago Quebec's Taekwondo Force assembled at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex for the 12th Raymond Mourad Taekwondo Championships. More than 730 fighters disputed more than 200 gold medals. It was a treat. Yes, Taekwondo is very much alive in our neighbourhood. Come see a class and talk with Grand Master Mourad. You’ll be happy you did.

Taekwondo is a fun and demanding sport where flexibility, agility, stamina, willpower and concentration are required and developed through training and exercises. It instills discipline and the value of hard work. Ten keup (pronounced – cup) or levels must be attained before graduating as a dan.
